Most name plates are rectangular or square. Some can be oval or circular. But what if you need your name plate, logo plate, etc. made into a shape you didn’t learn about in kindergarten?
There are tons of reasons why you would need your plate fitted into an irregular shape. For instance, you may want a logo plate, name plate, or decal to only fi the form of your logo. You may need to cover buttons and levers on a machine that isn’t a square or rectangle, or you may need a sign that wraps around a cylinder.
Does the above describe your situation, or an order you need to place? Let’s dive into what you can do to make sure you get exactly what you need.
Materials
Some materials lend themselves better to odd shapes than others. For instance, materials that you can heat easily are a great candidate, especially if you’re using a mold.
The first material that comes to our mind isn’t metal. It’s plastic. Vinyl and polyester are easily malleable and are inexpensive to make, let alone wrap around cylinders and mold into an irregular shape.
Need metal? Aluminum is a cost-effective solution that’s easily malleable. Learn about the materials we offer here.
Processes
Material doesn’t need to be melted to make an irregular shape. It depends on how irregular we’re talking. Multiple processes can make an irregular shape. For instance, if you need a regular name plate, caution plate or data plate fit to a cylinder, metal forming could be all you need.
For plastic, injection forming is a common process to make irregularly-shaped logo and name plates. If you need an extremely precise shape or etch, ask us about electroforming. Electroforming is a branding process that creates precise shapes in your metal plate. If you need to batch your irregularly shaped plates, ask us about die-cutting. This process makes multiple plates in the same shape.
